The art of cutting inside to score

How do you get better at cutting inside to score goals and test a goalkeeper? We’ll tell you how!

Cutting inside to score goals is a technique commonly used by attacking players in soccer/football. It involves quickly changing direction and moving from the outer areas of the field towards the center, allowing for better shooting opportunities. Here are some steps to help you execute this technique effectively:

Timing and positioning:

Choose the right moment to make your move. Look for gaps in the defense or when the opposition’s defenders are out of position. Position yourself on the flank or wing, wide of the goal, so you have space to cut inside.

Dribbling skills:

Develop good dribbling skills to maintain control of the ball while moving at speed. Practice close ball control, quick touches, and changes of direction. Keep the ball close to your feet to minimize the risk of it being tackled away.

Fake or feint:

Use body movements, feints, or fakes to deceive the defender. Pretend to go one way by shifting your body weight and then quickly change direction towards the center of the field.

Acceleration:

Once you’ve deceived the defender, explode into the space you’ve created. Accelerate quickly with powerful strides, using your speed to leave the defender behind.

Protect the ball:

As you cut inside, shield the ball from defenders using your body. Position your body between the ball and the defender, making it difficult for them to make a tackle. Use your arms and body to create a barrier.

Shoot or pass:

Once you’ve reached a favorable shooting position, make a decision based on the situation. If you have a clear shot on goal, take it. If defenders are closing in or a teammate is in a better position, consider making a pass.

Practice and repetition:

Like any skill, cutting inside to score goals requires practice. Repetition will help you refine your technique, improve your timing, and increase your success rate.

Remember, soccer is a dynamic sport, and the effectiveness of cutting inside will depend on various factors such as the quality of opposition, your individual abilities, and the overall team strategy. Adapt your approach based on the specific game situation and always be aware of your teammates’ positions on the field.
